Welcome to my portfolio page. I guess the best word to describe it right now is sparse. This is because I have not freelanced in earnest since 2000.

Client Name: OnTarget Personal Training
Client Type: Business Client
Work Status: 2003-Current
Description of Work:

When contacted, this client had a need to have a web presence. This business is a small one person personal training service. I was contacted by this client through a mutual friend.

OnTarget Site #1
The original site was based on literature she had printed at a previous time. She wanted to make sure that her web site was a reflection of her company identity. This was a little restrictive but it was achieved.

OnTarget Site #2
The current site is version two. Version one was a template of literature which the client sent me. This client wanted her web site to look like all of her brochures and pamphlets. This was achieved. Version two was not based on this and is more a "from scratch" product.

OnTarget Site #3
Version three is the one under development. We have decided to use a flash based site and also have created brochures, pamphlets, and business cards to complete the complete looks for the client. We are still waiting for some photos for the final site and then we will be rolling it out. We have also discussed using a dynamic website to track the progress of her clients.

Extended Literature
Site #3 also cam with extended literature. This included pamphlets, business cards, flyers, gift certificates, and other printed material. You can see the completed work at left.

Client Name: Personal Development
Client Type: Business Client
Work Status: Current
Description of Work:

This work was self motivated. I decided that it was time to take invoicing to a web based application instead of relying on paper excel printouts. I looked at some of the solutions which were out there. The only ones that I saw were $100. That was just too much. So I wrote my own and am marketing it at $30 with most of the same functionality as the $100 versions.

Client Name: Hoops Leagues USA
Client Type: Business Client
Work Status: January 2005 - Current
Description of Work:

When contacted this client had an idea to start a site which would help bring together those who run basketball leagues and those who would want to play in them. After discussion the client decided that not only should the site offer this service but be a clearinghouse for information on non professional basketball.

Items such as shoe reviews, offers from local vendors and outlets, ability to post and record leagues scores and statistics, and have an all involved community regarding non-professional basketball.

This site involved a PHP/Database backend and as of now only has a concept of the front page and league listings.

A screen capture of the front page will be posted shortly.

Client Name: Boston College - Research and Instructional Technology Group
Client Type: Business Client
Work Status: August 2004 - Current
Description of Work:

Even though I work at Boston College I was hired by another group on a freelance basis for a large ordering project(>$1,000,000) on the part of Academic Technology Services.

The scope of this project was to allow faculty and staff to place yearly orders with the Academic Technology Group at Boston College. The previous(03-04) year project was handled by a different person. The resulting web application, based in PHP and MySQL, was a basic form submission to a database. These items, needing to be reviewed by different levels of the BC hierarchy, were subsequently printed out for review and then reentered into the database using a database management application. These requests also had to be submitted at one sitting and there was no room for errors as you could not go back and make changes.

After taking over the project I added the following features and enhancements. In total only about 10% of the project was left in tact from the original year:

  1. Centralized authentication to the Boston College LDAP authentication server
  2. Levels of administration of the Web application including:
    • User Access
    • Chairman Access
    • Dean / Department Administrator Access
    • System Administrator Access
  3. Ability to store progress and return and edit requests
  4. Online ranking and commenting for Deans and Chairman of individual items
  5. Administrator set date for request submission and review period
  6. Administrator request modification privileges (non-destructive of original request)
  7. Administrator reminder emails to users of system set/sent automatically
  8. Running totals and visual feedback of requests
  9. Administrative user administration
  10. Enhanced "Control Panel" based interface

There will be a working copy of this application for you to use in the near future located to the left.

Included in the project was setup and establishment of SSL on OSX server for a secure hosting location for this web application.

Plans to expand this application to include the delivery and distribution are now underway.

Client Name: Habitat for Humanity - Boston
Client Type: Business Client
Work Status: Sept. 1999 - Dec. 2000
Description of Work:

Habitat for Humanity Boston was a client from late 1999 till late 2000. Over that period of time myself with the aid of another consultant attempted to update and introduce new technology into their office.

When we arrived in the office there were some pressing concerns right off. These included:

Non-functional NT server

  • Older donated machines unable to run what was at the time updated software.
  • A dial in connection for the office was the only means to the internet
  • There was not any file sharing between machines other then with floppy disks.

Services provided for HfH included:

  • Custom building two PCs for the administrator and the head secretary to work at
  • Stringing ethernet cable throughout the office to link all of the PCs into a network infrastructure.
  • Upgading non replaced PC to run software more responsively
  • Bringing the NT server back to a functional state.
  • Education of users with new DSL line and new email system to the office

My relationship with HfH ended due to other time commitments.
